Editing orders placed in a different currency than your store currency (Multicurrency)
Shopify allows merchants to sell and accept payments in multiple currencies, allowing them to pay for their orders and receive refunds in their local currency. Since December 2023, Shopify has allowed native editing of these orders. However, this comes with certain editing limitations. This article will go over Shopify's limitations and explain our best solution to edit an order placed in a different currency than your store's currency.
Limitations with Cleverific
Shopify currently does not allow any apps to use their multi-currency APIs. Because of this, you won’t be able to edit orders placed in a currency different from your store’s default currency in Advanced Mode.
Note: While this limitation affects order editing in Advanced Mode, multicurrency orders can be edited in Cleverific’s Quick Mode, Cleverific + Flow, and Customer Portal.
Editing a multicurrency order in Advanced Mode
While Shopify allows certain edits to be made on multicurrency orders, certain edits can only be made in Advanced Mode:
- Increasing a product price
- Adding or editing line item properties
- Adding an order discount
- Changing shipping method
If you need to perform any of these edits on your multicurrency order, we have a workaround that will allow you to bypass this limitation in Cleverific’s Advanced Mode (See below)
Converting a multicurrency order in your store's currency
To bypass these limitations and edit an order placed in a currency different from your store currency, you can convert it to your store’s default currency and edit it using Cleverific.
Steps
- Open your order in your Shopify Admin.
Click More Actions > Cancel order to cancel the original order in Shopify without refunding it (so you can retain the original payment).
- In your Shopify Admin, click More Actions > Duplicate to duplicate the order as a new draft order.
In your new draft order, under Market, click Change and select your primary market (store's default currency).
- Mark the newly created draft order as paid.
- Edit the newly created order using Cleverific.
- Click Save.
