Changing the shipping address on existing orders in Quick Mode
By default, Shopify does not recalculate taxes when you edit a shipping address natively. With Cleverific’s Quick Mode, taxes are automatically recalculated whenever you update the shipping address, and the changes are applied directly to the order. This article will walk you through how the feature works and how to use it.
Note: This feature is disabled by default. Please email us at support@cleverific.com, and we'd be more than happy to enable this for your store.
How it works
When you edit the shipping address in Quick Mode, Cleverific will remove the existing line items from the order and re-add them behind the scenes.
This process forces Shopify to recalculate taxes based on the new shipping address.
Change the shipping address in Quick Mode
Steps
1. In your Shopify admin, open the order that has the shipping information that needs to be updated.
2. Click More Actions > Edit Order.
3. In Cleverific's Quick Mode, click Edit under the shipping address section to enter the correct information.
4. Once you’ve edited the information, click Save Changes to process your changes.
Note: When entering or editing the shipping address in Cleverific, ensure all the main fields are properly filled out, such as Last Name, Address, Zip Code, State, and Country.
If any of these fields are left empty, the shipping address will appear blank on your order page in Shopify.
- Click Save to apply your changes to the order.
- On your order details page, the updated shipping address will be reflected, and you will see the items that have been removed and re-added behind the scenes.
Refunds and amount due
Cleverific calculates the taxes based on the shipping address. Depending on the updated shipping address entered, you might see either a refund due or an outstanding amount.
We recommend verifying the total section in your editor to ensure you're aware of the total price change and take action accordingly, such as issuing the refund or sending a payment request for the outstanding amount.
Shopify defaulting to last shipping address entered
Shopify will use the address in the customer's latest order as the default address. So, if your returning customer uses a new address when placing their order, this new address will become their default address.
Because of this, when selecting a customer in Cleverific, it will populate the default address provided by Shopify on the customer's card.
Tip: You can allow your customers to edit their shipping address with our self-serve Customer Portal feature.
