Using Downpay with Cleverific

Downpay integrates seamlessly with Cleverific. Orders that include products purchased with a deposit can be edited in Customer Portal, Advanced Mode, or Quick Mode. Customers have the same self-service editing options whether they’ve paid in full or placed a deposit, and your team also retains full control to make edits as needed.

This article covers what Downpay is, the benefits of using it with Cleverific, and how to set it up.

What is Downpay

Downpay is a Shopify app that lets merchants sell products using deposits or down payments. Instead of requiring customers to pay the full amount upfront, Downpay allows them to place a deposit at checkout and pay the remaining balance later.

This gives merchants more flexibility in offering higher-value products while making it easier for customers to commit to a purchase.

Key benefits of Downpay

For merchants:

  • Sell higher-value products by lowering the upfront cost barrier.
  • Increase conversions by giving customers flexible payment options.
  • Secure revenue early with deposits, while still collecting the remaining balance later.
  • Reduce cancellations by allowing customers to commit without full payment upfront.

For customers:

  • Pay a deposit now and complete the purchase later.
  • Gain more flexibility to purchase higher-priced items.
  • Spread out costs in a way that works better for their budget.

  1. Test cancelling the order via Customer Portal.
  • If the deposit was not captured (recommended): The authorization is voided, and the products are restocked.
  • If the deposit was captured: A full refund of the deposit is issued, and the products are restocked.
