Automatically applying free shipping based on Shopify’s shipping rates threshold in Customer Portal
When customers edit their orders, Customer Portal can automatically update shipping rates to match your Shopify free shipping thresholds. This ensures customers always get the right shipping rate based on their updated order total. This feature is disabled by default.
For example, If you offer free shipping on orders over $50 in your shipping zones, and a customer with a $45 order adds $10 worth of items during an edit, free shipping is applied automatically.

Requirements
- Ensure you've requested this feature to be enabled for your store.
- Your store has a free shipping threshold set up in Shopify Shipping settings, using Shopify's native shipping rates (for example, “Free shipping on orders over $50”).

- Your free shipping rule is based on order value thresholds, not free shipping discount codes.
How it works in Customer Portal
You can find below the expected behavior for different scenarios and edits made in Customer Portal.

| Customer adds items and reaches the free shipping threshold (e.g., order goes from $45 to $55 with $50 threshold) | Free shipping is automatically applied. |
| Customer removes items and falls below the threshold (e.g., order drops from $55 to $40) | The cheapest available paid shipping rate is applied. |
| Order total stays above the threshold after edits | Free shipping remains unchanged. |
| Order total stays below the threshold after edits | Paid shipping remains unchanged. |
| Customer edits a partially fulfilled order | No shipping changes are applied. |
| Store has no free shipping thresholds configured in Shopify | No shipping adjustments occur during edits. |
Key limitations
For partially fulfilled orders, shipping costs remain unchanged when customers make edits.
