Exchanging a product

Cleverific allows you to exchange a line item in the order for a different variant, size, color or a completely different product.

You can exchange products in Cleverific's Quick Mode and Advanced Mode.

Exchange for different variants

You can change a line item variant directly in-line without removing and re-adding the correct SKU.

  1. In your Shopify Admin, open the order you'd like to edit.
  2. On your order page, click More actions > Edit Order.
  3. Click on the line item variant and select the correct variant.

Note: If your current product is fulfilled, exchanging for a different variant will mark the new product as unfulfilled.

Exchange for a different product

If you need to switch out a line item for an entirely different product, you can remove the original line item and replace it with the product you want to add.

  1. In your Shopify Admin, open the order you'd like to edit.
  2. On your order page, click More actions > Edit Order.
  3. Click on the product search bar and type the name or SKU of the product you want to add.

Note: Your product has to be active to appear in the results. If you're still unable to find your product, perform a strict title search by entering title:"product title"

3. Hover over the product you want to remove, then click the "trash can" icon on the right.

4. Click Save.


Advanced Mode: Once you click Save, the original order will be marked as cancelled, the exchanged product will be returned to inventory, and a new order will be created.

Quick Mode: When you click Save, the edit will be saved on your original order. The exchanged product will be returned to inventory.

Collect payment for an exchange

  • If your exchanged item is the same amount as the returned item, the customer will not be charged or receive a refund.
  • If the amount of your exchanged item is less than the amount of the returned item, Cleverific will automatically refund the difference to your customer through the customer's original order.
  • If the amount of your exchanged item exceeds the amount of the returned item, you can send an invoice using Cleverific's Payment Request feature to collect the amount owed.
